Tragic News on UPS Accident: Fatalities Climbs to 13

The total count of lives lost due to the freight aircraft which burst into flames and crashed has climbed to 13, according to latest announcements.

City Leader's Statement

“On my way to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a consequence of the plane crash,” wrote the local official in a public communication. “My heart are with the relatives, friends and co-workers of all who were killed in this week’s disaster. We will endure this collectively.”

Casualties Identified

An announcement from UPS listed the flight crew aboard the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to every UPSer who has been impacted and everyone in our Louisville community – assisting you and guaranteeing you obtain the care and assistance you need is our main concern,” the company’s message read.

Probe Findings

National investigators disclosed that the freight aircraft’s left wing caught fire and an motor detached just after takeoff from the airfield, resulting in the jet to fall and erupt into a fireball.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is examining the jet’s maintenance history, which was in Texas for maintenance several weeks before the incident.

Flight tracking data revealed the aircraft was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this jet was present in that city,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, without a specific date range. “We will look at all elements of service that was performed, even the San Antonio visit, straight to the time of the journey.”

Recovery of Vital Items

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were recovered, and the power plant was located on the tarmac.

The recorders – referred to as flight recorders – were constructed to survive collision damage and intense fire from fires, and they seemed to be undamaged when found among the crash debris. Investigators plan on analyzing information from the black boxes.

Aircraft’s last flight details displayed an altitude of that level and a velocity of that speed ahead of the accident.

Repair History

Per aviation authority files from last month, a fissure on a component inside the center wing fuel tank required maintenance.

The company ST Engineering, which stated it offers aircraft servicing for the company’s jet and operates a service location in San Antonio, refused to comment, but stated it would cooperate fully when investigators approached it.

Services Resume

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport operations resumed that evening with its Next Day Air also known as evening procedure, official Jim Mayer said. Each of the three tarmacs at the airport were likewise reopened.

The distribution hub in the city is the company’s largest. The hub hires more than 20,000 people in the locality, manages numerous flights per day and organizes more than 400,000 items each hour.

Public Response

A memorial was held on the late afternoon of 6 November by the area labor union, which represents employees at the airfield, the organization’s biggest freight center.

The union chapter, which stands for staff, began the memorial with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the estimated time of the crash previously.

“This event was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the mayor spoke to the assembly of 200. “No one had a opportunity to part to any of those who we have mourned.”
