Man confesses to sexual offenses against young males at summer camp
A person who spiked candy with sedative and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys aged nine and ten years old.
The defendant was arrested after eight children and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.
"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated Ruben went on to play the "sweet game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that stage," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the authorities a second time.
She said Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
